The Coniston 14 2007

This race is undoubtedly features one of the finest routes in England and Wales.I had never attempted this race before and so when I received an invitation to form part of a team to raise money for an Ethiopian Hospital in Hossana,I leapt at the chance to get back into running and help with the charity.

Myself, John Mckenna,John Hughes-Roberts,Otto Klimach,Duncan Cameron,Sean McCormack and Ian Barnard to name a few, formed part of the team to help with fund raising for the hospital which is linked with Glan Clwyd Hospital.

I was fortunate to have a good friend in John Mckenna who kept me company for 10 miles, encouraging me and monitoring my pace. Not having run this distance for some years, and lacking in training, it was great to have someone with me on the run who has a lot of experience and is prepared to put himself out to help.John McKenna is easily able to run fast times for this distance but put all this behind him to form part of the 'team'.

The team on the day had some exceptional performances though.Sean McCormack who is currently at the peak of his running career came in the top 20 - a performance which put him into the award ceremony.Quite an achievement given the quality of the field of 1300 or so runners and the undulating nature of the course.

There were fine performances by Ian Barnard and Otto Klimach on the day, who clearly had been doing some training for the event, both clocking very reasonable times.John Hughes-Roberts had a fine run finishing just ahead of John McKenna.

Thanks to everyone who took part and sacrificed their time in aid of Hossana Hospital, and to all the sponsors who generously donated money towards the Ethiopian charity.

Special thanks to all my colleagues at PENDYFFRYN MEDICAL GROUP who have made a generous contribution to the hospital by sponsoring me for the event.
