Border League Prestatyn 2007 Race 1 - Prestatyn 14/10/07 5.1M (approx.)

The 1st Border League at Prestatyn went off without a hitch, with the weather holding to give the runners a good chance on the out and back course in Prestatyn.Ahead by what seemed a huge margin was Eryri' s Gwyn Owen, who had opened up a huge gap by halfway. It was good to see old warriors Steve Crowe and Clive West battling it out in the top 5, with Crowe nudging ahead to take 4th place at the finish.Earlston of Abergele continues to stay at the top of the 45's.Remarkably it was in the higher age groups that some serious competition was emerging.Incredibly,Gareth Hughes, clocked what is for any competitor, a cracking time of 35.04.This is even more remarkable given his age group is now in the 60+.Unfortunately for Gareth however, there seems to be a wealth of talent in this age group now, most of whom seem to be living in and around North Wales.Gareth's time was only good enough to place him 8th on the day, with Emyr Davies taking 1st postion in the over 60s.FULL RESULTS

Border League Prestatyn Report

The promised storm did not materialize at Prestatyn thankfully for the 3rd Border League. It was a slow start with the runners reluctant to take the lead. Steve Crowe and Darren Blazier did a lot of the work early in the race before John Earlston of Abergele took the lead through the golf course and then right towards Rhyl on the main road.Crowe forced the pace on the main road with, Brendan Rothery, Ian Houston & Mark Hulmaston breaking away and picking up the pace towards Prestatyn.Hulmaston applied an injection of pace with 2 miles of running to go creating a gap. Crowe attempted to cover it and managed to pull away from Rothery. Unfortunately Steve Crowe was unable to close the gap on Hulmaston.Rothery pushed at the finish but was unable to catch Crowe. The final positions saw Hulmaston take first place, with the ever improving Crowe just 4 seconds behind, to take second place.
Crowe remains at the top of the league, in what is turning out to be a hotly contested league. RESULTS

Border League Caernarfon Report

The appearance of one of North Wales top runners, Alun Vaughan, meant that some fine runners found themselves lower down the field at the finish. In fact it was another Eryrii runner, Gwyn Owen who managed to stay in front of Steve Crowe of Ellesmere Port, pushing the ever improving runner into third place.Abergele had a number of high placed finishers inlcluding Darren Blazier and Sean McCormack. It was quite remarkable that the young Steve McCormack was only seconds behind his much more experienced father. The young man produced the run of his life to clock 36.22 over the 10k course, and gave us an indication of his future potential in the sport. Frank Reilly, now in his 60s produced an incredible run for Prestatyn, and was their first finisher, clocking 37.44.
